Nevada – by THETRADESHOW

THETRADESHOW is being held in Las Vegas this year, but we wanted everyone to know that there is a lot more to the state of Nevada than Las Vegas. Remember that you can use 60-Second Geography articles in your own newsletters and websites. If you can attend THETRADESHOW this year, give it some deep consideration. It is a great opportunity to forge the relationships you need to put your travel practice into high gear!

60-Second Geography

Nevada

While the glitzy city gets a lion’s share of the publicity, the rest of the state is a playground for nature lovers, for skiers, for boaters, golfers and for just about any out-of-door activity under the sun. Let’s also not forget Reno, Carson City, Lake Tahoe, or the dozens of other towns and citys with their own special brand of western entertainment. There’s not much you cannot find in the Silver State.
  • Nevada experiences more than 300 days of sunshine each year. Outdoor activities are the natural beneficiary of the kind of clear sky environment.
  • Golf is a key activity for the state, and growing in popularity. There are more than 100 courses like Rosewood Lakes in Reno, Painted Desert Golf Club or Badlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, Empire Ranch in Carson City and Cascata Golf Club in Boulder City, just for starters.
  • Hikers and campers will find plenty of trails to explore. The Tahoe Rim Trail has more than 165 miles of spectacular scenery around the lake. Not far from Reno, the Mount Rose Wilderness Area is a favorite with advanced hikers. There are 60 plus miles of trail at the Great Basin National Park and Mount Moriah Wilderness boasts peaks high enough to challenge even experienced hikers. Further south is the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation area.
  • Many of the same hiking areas also contain excellent mountain biking opportunities. There are thousands of miles of trails for all skill levels.
  • Many do not realize that Nevada is graced with more than 300 naturally occurring hot springs, many of which are available for use, some on public lands.
  • Nevada (the word means “snow covered” in Spanish) is favored with more than 33 feet of snow each year at some of its ski resorts. There are twelve separate resorts on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe alone.
  • Nevada has many cultural opportunities as well. Reno has undergone a major renaissance and the art galleries, restaurants and entertainment venues are all newly vibrant. There are eight state museums in Nevada and the Nevada Museum of Art and the Las Vegas Art Museum are both excellent facilties that display a very different side of the state’s life and history.
  • What happens in Vegas might stay in Vegas, but Nevada is also a family destination. Waterparks and themed hotels, along with all of the outdoor life and activities provide plenty of adventure for all of the members of the family.
