Allons Travel — Back to school

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit a local college campus for a meeting. Walking through the beautiful trees on campus and seeing the students scurrying to class made me nostalgic for my college days. I longed to return to campus life and learning. But I remembered how luck I was to be in the travel industry. You don’t need to go to college to continue your knowledge especially in the travel industry. There are a myriad of on line classes and webinars to choose from.  Princess and Cunard’s Academy, Royal Caribbean’s University of Wow, Disney’s College of Knowledge, CLIA classes, The Travel Institute, and more are a few clicks away.  Some of these are free while others will have a fee; but compared to college tuitition they are a bargain. There are courses for every niche and destination.  Since business was a little slow, I decided to bone up on my schooling.

Fall is the season when many suppliers and destinations have trade shows, live training and seminars. Apple Vacations and Globus are two suppliers that offer shows and training.  I stay on top of what’s going on by subscribing to online forums such as TRO, I join travel industry groups such as NACTA, ASTA, OSSN to keep abreast of training and other events. When possible I attend trade shows.  And I never want to overlook the importance of reading publications—noth trade and consumer. There is a wealth of information in these magazines. And, if your budget doesn’t fit the bill for subscriptions to all of the best magazines, check them out online, or get the real thing in your hands for free at your local library!

I am back taking classes that will help me not only be a better agent but better at marketing, sales, communication and getting my message across. All of these steps will pay off in the long run with increased business, profitability and helping me to be a well rounded agent.

If you are interested in taking classes here is where I have been concentrating:

By next month, I will be re-educated and have something new to offer my clients  and prospects.   Continuing  education allows me to position myself as a travel expert and differentiate myself from the pack and will allow me to help my clients find their perfect vacation experience.

  1. Good information..Are some of these classes
free? I don’t have much money.

  2. Mary Stephan says:

The CLIA Classes and Travel Institute both charge fees. Travel Agent University, Travel Agent Academy and TRO webinars are free.

The Cruise Lines offer training on their sites as well which are free.

    Among them.
    University of WOW–Royal Caribbean
    Princess Academy-Polar online
    Carnival
    NCL

You will need valid sign ins for these or an account set up.
