Guess what I know?

If you are over the age of 35 and have children, nephews or neighbors over the age of 10, you know exactly what I am about to say. Young people today seem to “know” just about everything. However, this trait is not limited to just young people. Unfortunately, there are too many adults who seem to “know” it all as well.

But what most people have a hard time realizing is that “knowing” and “doing” are two entirely different things.

Sure they know what to do. They know what to say. What to think. What to try. What not to say. What not to do. What not to think. Of course do; because they “know” it all.

One of my signature lessons is to ask people to make one single contact with someone in the universe to say “thank-you.” It is not a hard thing to do and it really does reap many rewards. Even if it doesn’t, it will make you feel good—and that is reward in and of itself!

But you know what? When I follow up with the people who come to me for my advice, I get the phrase that makes me cringe—“I know I should have, but…”

Sure they “know.” I am sure their mothers told them to say thank-you, when to say thank-you, and how to say thank-you. So why do all these people who “know,” still not follow through?

Thanking those who have contributed to putting food on your table is a good thing! Why? Because they will remember you and maybe put more food on your table! You do like to eat, right? But more importantly, saying “thank-you” works!

Sending forms of appreciation to those in your life who have favorably contributed to your well-being … is a good idea. Why? Because it works. But you already “know” that. So why (I ask why) do so many people still avoid writing, calling or emailing simple “thank-you” notes?

But you already know that. Right?

Become the exception. Send just one “appreciation” communication each week and let me know how it goes. Just do it.
