So, about travel insurance

Travel insurance can be confusing, but the more you know the easier it is to explain and understand the benefits. Here are some of the most common questions about travel insurance coverage that will help you to make the best decision possible as you navigate the sales process with your client.

There are many options for travel insurance and you and your client should always select the best product for their needs. With that said, I can only address the products offered by Travel Insured.

Why do I need to purchase a travel insurance policy when traveling abroad?

Most existing health insurance coverage does not apply while traveling abroad. Travel insurance plans include emergency medical and emergency medical assistance coverage as well as any transportation that may be needed. This protection can provide you with proper medical care and protect you financially if you had to stay in hospital, be evacuated for treatment, or undergo a major medical process.

Will a pre-existing medical condition affect my travel insurance coverage?

If you have a pre-existing medical condition, you can certainly get coverage. If a traveler is concerned with pre-existing medical conditions, we provide 4 different options of insurance policies which offer you this type of protection. In order to receive coverage for pre-existing medical conditions you must follow these guidelines:

  1. The insurance policy must be purchased within 30, 21, or 14 calendar days from the first deposit towards your trip, depending on which policy you are looking to invest in.
  2. The full, non-refundable cost of the trip must be insured.
  3. All travelers must be medically well enough to travel the date that the policy is purchased.
  4. It must be the first and only booking for the trip.

Do I need to buy a separate travel insurance policy for my child?

With Travel Insured, the Worldwide Trip Protector plans all children 17 or under are insured for free with the primary insured related/guardian adult. On the Trip Protector Lite and Trip Protector Lite Expanded plans, one child 17 or under is insured for free per each insured related/guardian adult.

Should I really read the details of the travel insurance policy before my trip?

One of the most important aspects of receiving the coverage you need with an insurance policy is to always read the fine print and understand the rules and regulations of the supplier. As long as you understand the restrictions and deadlines, you can be reimbursed costs if something unexpected does in fact happen

There’s a lot going on in the world today, including Ebola, and Travel Insured International® urges individuals who are planning on traveling during to invest in a travel insurance policy that includes the following in order to protect their investments as well as their safety dealing with any unforeseen world events.

This document contains highlights of the plan. Review the Certificate of Insurance for complete terms, including benefits, conditions, limitations and exclusions that apply. The Certificate of Insurance will be provided to you by your travel supplier upon purchase of the plan.

Why should I invest in a policy that included Cancel for Any Reason?

It is important to understand that purchasing a Plus policy that includes the benefit of Cancel for Any Reason is the best way to make sure costs are covered if a traveler is worried about a hurricane, Ebola, terrorist attack, or another unexpected event . This benefit will allow you to cancel up to two or more days prior to your scheduled departure for a reimbursement up to 75% of your non-refundable prepaid vacation costs. The Worldwide Trip Protector Plus has to be purchased within 21 days to include this coverage.

When should I purchase my travel insurance policy?

While technically travelers can purchase travel insurance as late as up to the day before the departure date, there are many reasons why purchasing a travel insurance policy early is the way to go.

The most important aspect to understand is what determines the trip deposit date. Once a traveler makes the first initial payment for a planned trip, that date becomes the initial trip deposit date. Even if you have not yet made plans or paid for all the expenses you will be paying for the trip, you are able to cover all additional costs for items such as plane tickets and tours even after you make your first initial travel insurance payment. It is always better to purchase an insurance policy and then add any expenses at a later time.
