Explore The Next Generation Of River Cruising With Emerald Waterways

In 1986, Glen Moroney began hosting packaged holidays for Melbourne-based seniors’ clubs along Australia’s famous Great Ocean Road, all the way to the small coastal town of Warrnambool. Warrnambool Scenic Coach Tours quickly became successful in a relatively short amount of time, and gave Glen the opportunity to expand, offering more variety in his tour itineraries. By the late 1980’s, Warrnambool Scenic Coach Tours was expanding rapidly and offered tours to destination events such as the World Exposition of 1988 in Brisbane and Australian premier of The Phantom of the Opera, creating the recognition of Warrnambool Scenic Coach Tours as Australia’s largest coach operator bringing guests to the musical phenomenon, which played in all of Australia’s major capital cities. The high quality of the tours and their ever-increasing popularity became the catalyst for the company’s name change to Australian Scenic Tours, and led to the purchase of their first coach 1989. The steady growth of the company ensured the commission of a custom-built fleet of 5-star Mercedes Benz coaches.

In the early 1990’s, Australian Scenic Tours developed a successful program of tours across both Australia and New Zealand, quickly followed by Norfolk Island in 1997 and Southern Africa in 1998. By the end of the decade they had expanded to hosting tours to Canada, Alaska, and the USA, and changed their company name to Scenic Tours to reflect the new international direction of the company. Today Scenic Tours is the leading touring company to Canada and Alaska, with a  focus on overseas expansion. Scenic Tours now operates itineraries on every continent, and hosts holidays in destinations across Europe, Russia, throughout Southeast Asia, China, Japan, India, across Central and South America, Antarctica, and across the Middle East including Egypt, Jordan, and Dubai.

Emerald Waterways was launched in August 2013 by Scenic Tours to tap into the emerging popularity of European river cruising in the UK, US, and Canadian travel market. Emerald Waterways launched with two brand new ships, each carrying up to 180 passengers. The exquisite quality and innovation of the ships initially offered 8, 10, 12 and 15-day cruising on the Rhine, Main, and Moselle rivers between Amsterdam and Budapest. Emerald Waterways became an instant hit with all types and ages of guests.

Today, Emerald Waterways is sailing 4 ships, with a 5th ship debuting in April 2016, and is looking to increase their offerings with the goal of building more ships and expanding the fleet. They are truly global, operating hundreds of extended touring programs to many exotic domestic and international destinations, and many of their guests choose to travel under the Scenic and Emerald Waterways flag time and time again. Scenic Tours and Emerald Waterways are still private, Australian-owned companies, employing staff and crew worldwide. Their goal is always to provide the ultimate holiday experience and utilize their 25-plus years of creating, hosting, and delivering incredible holidays by the strength and quality of their staff and crew, products, knowledge, and services. Scenic is unified by the love of travel, and their employees and staff come to work every day to make quality travel a tangible reality for their guests through continual innovation and first-class service. Emerald Waterways is currently offering a training program for agents interested in promoting Emerald’s unique and luxurious river cruising packages.
