  • The climate in Manuel Antonio has a typical tropical climate, with dry and wet seasons during certain times of the year. No matter when you visit, however, the air will always have some significant humidity. The dry season lasts from December to April, and the wet season from May to November. The wettest part of the season is September and October; while many choose to avoid the area during the heavy rains, one of the perks is that the beaches and parks are quite a bit emprier.
  • One of the country’s most outstanding gay beaches, La Playita is favored by gay men and lesbian women from all over the world. The beach is inaccessible one hour before and after high tide, since the waves cut off access. Surfers love the wave action, but for those just looking for incredible scenery, this beach will not disappoint. Azure waters lapping against mossy rocks and foam-tipped waves rolling in the distance make for a truly stunning view as you relax in the warm Costa Rican sunshine.
  • The Manuel Antonio Nature Park & Wildlife Reserve was opened in 1972 as the tourist industry began to boom. The government wanted to protect the park’s incredible biodiversity, considered to be one of the most diverse in the world. In 2011, Forbes magazine listed the park as one of the 12 most beautiful parks in the world. Even though it is one of the country’s smallest national parks, the biodiversity of the park is unparalleled with 109 species of mammals and 184 species of birds.
  • For any hardcore surfers looking to stretch their muscles and ride killer waves in the Costa Rican sun, then head on over to Playa Espadilla. Though the waves are fantastic, the rip currents can be deadly, so take proper precautions and stay alert. The northern end of the beach is usually quieter due to its distance from the restaurants, but there are more rocks in that area as well. For most of the year the beach is surprisingly tranquil and quiet, even in the most crowded areas.
