You, Inc.: You’ve Heard It, So Use It

“We assume that if we’ve heard something, we know it, and if we know it, we are acting upon it.”

You, Inc. by Harry Beckwith, page 180

I’ve heard this all before.

My dad use to challenge me when he came home from work asking me to “tell him something I learned in school that day that he did not already know.”

I managed to blurt out some obscure factoid just to keep him at bay before heading off to watch the current episode of Leave It To Beaver. (It worked like a jewel… probably because he really did not care and wasn’t listening to my response.)

Fast-forward 55 years and I am reminded of how many audience members ask me if they are going to hear anything new from last year’s workshop. My answer to them is “Probably not.”

We are in the era of information overload and by now, what needs to be said has probably already been said… more than once.

Hearing something and internalizing the meaning and substance of a message are two entirely different scenarios. What makes all the difference in the world (the only difference) is if the message is implemented and put into action.

I know you have heard it. What are you doing about it?
