Boomerang Escapes – picking up the business and moving across the country

Well, here we are halfway through 2016 and I only expect the second half of the year to fly by even faster. I made it to Wisconsin, but not before a brief delay to tidy up some loose ends with the business before departing. It has been a learning process for sure and one thing you will discover is that each and every situation in life is unique. While I had researched and found there were several options for moving my business from Tennessee to New Jersey, I discovered during my purchasing process that due to certain circumstances from the divorce and how they operate in New Jersey that I would need to dissolve my business in Tennessee.

Being flexible, I delayed my departure from Tennessee to contact the state to see what I needed to do. In Tennessee, the business operates on city, county, and state level as far as the IRS is concerned. After my call with the state, I had my directions and reached out to my accountant (a must for any business owner), my business coaches with GIFTE, and my host agency GTN (Gifted Travel Network). My coaches assured me just a minor hassle of extra paperwork and that the transition was no big deal, while my accountant quickly amended my taxes in order for me to visit the local revenue department. Within a day I left with the closing letters from the city and county with the state sent off. Since then, I filed the additional forms with the state after receiving their closure letter and learned that my EIN and company name would stay intact to begin the application procedures for a new business in New Jersey. With that in the works, I then proceeded to take my office in a box and make the trip north to Wisconsin.

Now the place I am staying, until a few days ago, did not have Wi-Fi, which meant that each day I had about a ¼ mile walk up to the main house for working. With box and laptop in hand, I went to work. I also took major advantage of the most amazing weather they were having here in Wisconsin and got out walking. As you may recall from my first diary entry, getting outside is one way I ground myself and keep my mind focused on the objectives at hand. You may find this hard to believe, but as a general rule, I do not typically begin any work on travel or with clients until after 10 am. It is my “me time”. The best way for me to help others is to be at my best. In the past several years, I have created a morning ritual that involves exercise, meditation, and healthy eating. Doing this each day lets me map out what the priority for the day is and make a plan. I find I waste a lot less time and get much more productivity from my day when I stay on track with my ritual. I can’t complain about the fitness benefits either. In fact, during the nearly 3 weeks I have been here, I have logged over 70 miles of walking on my MapMyWalk app. I believe I mentioned in my introduction that one of the aspects we have incorporated into the business is fitness. You may recall in one of my past chapters of life I was actually an instructor and trainer. I decided to bring this passion back into the mix of career and life by offering motivational and personal coaching to help clients, family, and friends “Be Fit to Travel”. My sister and I both work this aspect of the business and offer most of it at no cost, because I personally feel good health is the key to enjoying life. In fact, hands-on approach to fitness is offered for people to invest in. I have also found walking to be a huge help for me as I do my best writing while I am walking. Seeing that I have 2 monthly obligations, a weekly ezine/blog and am also in the midst of writing my first book, I need the clear mind that walking and my morning ritual provides. In fact, this month’s diary was composed in my head during a 7.5 mile walk I took earlier this week.

And here I am now, in my last few days before I make the final transition to my new location and I am busy reviewing my numbers. Half the year down, where do I stand? What is the projection for the second half looking like? In business we need to know the good, the bad, and the ugly. I do look at my numbers on a regular basis, but this is the starting preparation for my upcoming half day private coaching with my GIFTE Diamond Mastermind program. I’ve got a lot of big goals ahead over the course of the next few years and I’m looking forward to the plan that will begin to get mapped out on July 22nd. After stepping back from the business in the second quarter to execute this whole transition, I’m anxious to get back in the driver’s seat.
