Zap The Gaps!: Be Effective

“You need to make sure you focus on those practices that truly impact effectiveness.”

Zap The Gaps! by Ken Blanchard, page 61

It is as simple as this. Identify the gap, and then zap it. (Fix it.)

Do you see what I just did? I took your attention away from the mechanical activity and tried to have you focus on the “snag.”

Let’s back up. The “gap” is the difference between where you are today and where you want to be tomorrow. Today you count 22 clients. You would like to service 30 clients. The gap is 8 clients. Today you work 10 hours each day. You want to go home to your family after eight hours of daily activity. The gap is two hours.

Once you identify the “gap,” the rest is elementary. You simply devise a plan to zap the gap. This is where you often times must become ruthless with yourself.

Here is an easy game plan. Start paying attention to how you are currently spending your time. Ask yourself, “Is this really contributing to my objective? Will this activity lead me one step closer to my Master Plan?”

I know what you are doing at the moment seems important. I understand that. But is it truly necessary? Only you can be the judge on this one.

I am betting that 80% of your daily activity is producing just 20% of the desired results. Identify where you are going wrong. Then do something about it. Zap the gap.
