Discover Paradise, Fly with Solomon Airlines

Solomon Airlines’ hub the Henderson International Airport in Honiara (HIR) and is the official international carrier of the Solomon Islands. A scattered archipelago of some 990-odd richly forested mountainous islands and low-lying coral atolls, the Solomon Islands has been attracting international tourism since 1568 when Spanish explorer Alvaro de Mendana first sailed into this tucked away corner of the South Pacific. Mendana’s legacy can still be found in the Solomon Islands today with many of the islands still bearing the Spanish names he gave them – Santa Isabel, San Cristóbal and perhaps the most famous of all, Guadalcanal, the name synonymous with World War II which takes its name from a small township in Andalucia in southern Spain.

Things changed dramatically during World War II and the Solomon Islands became a household name when the forces of Imperial Japan invaded, the region becoming the scene for some of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific theatre and most famously the battle of Guadalcanal when thousands of Japanese and US servicemen lost their lives.

Little has changed in the Solomon Islands since then and it’s thanks to this that the Solomon Islands have become such a breathtakingly fresh destination for those international travellers hardy enough to get off the beaten track and look for a new and very different experience.

Today World War II buffs and veterans and their families – mostly American and Japanese – SCUBA divers and surfers looking for the ultimate uncrowded wave, make up the bulk of the 22,000 or so international travellers who visit every year. But the destination is fast attracting a brand new breed of travellers from around the world – family groups, bird watchers, honeymooners, sports fishermen, yachtsmen, culture-lovers and simply those looking to make their own tracks.

The newly emerging, multi-faceted Solomon Islands can pretty much cater to every taste, desire and budget with its myriad choice of accommodation – from the ‘big gun’ hotels of the capital Honiara to boutique resort accommodation, eco-lodges and home-stays dotted across the entire archipelago. Best of all, and quite a surprise for many travellers, the Solomon Islands are very easy to reach – it takes less than three hours to reach the Solomon Islands’ capital Honiara from Brisbane and just over three hours from Sydney flying a sleek Solomon Airlines Airbus A320 complete with full onboard service.

Solomon Airlines is IOSA accredited and flies both domestically and internationally. Their fleet of 5 aircraft include newly upgraded A320 for international routes and a fleet of smaller aircraft specifically suited to their network of domestic routes. They provide enjoyable flying to a range of island destinations that both locals and world travellers are seeking.

Their flagship A320 flies our international routes including Sydney, Brisbane, Port Vila and Nadi. Your clients be given a “Warm Welkam” as they board and comfortably settle into their economy or business class seating. In-flight, your clients will enjoy full service all the way on their international routes.

Solomon Airlines Dash 8 currently operates services between Honiara and two of the larger islands. Daily flights between Gizo and Honiara, connecting to international flights, takes approximately one and a half hours.

Solomon Airlines’ Twin Otter operates services to all 9 provinces across the Solomon Islands. Their De Havilland Twin Otter aircraft comfortably seats 18 people. Their Islander aircraft also fly to all 9 provinces and are ideal for many of our island strips.

All Solomon Airlines’ international flights offer full service and complimentary beverages. Economy Class offers a choice of meals, and passengers can choose from a range of selected wines and beers from Australia and Solomon Islands. Belama Class, our own Business-First cabin, also offers a range of complimentary soft drinks, tea, coffee, premium wine, cocktails and beer, together with a choice of meals.

Belama Club means access to our exclusive air-conditioned Belama Club Lounge at the Honiara International Airport. And as a Belama Plus Member, passengers have access to the Tabua Lounge at Nadi Airport and the Executive Club of Air Niugini at Port Moresby. In Sydney and Brisbane, Belama Plus Members can access the Qantas Club Lounge.

Solomon Airlines is a proud airline creating a real sense of belonging in the community: “We go the extra mile in everything we do”
