Emerald Waterways’ Rhone River Cruise Treats Guests to Culinary Delights

Emerald Waterways has announced a brand new Provence sailing for 2017, “Sensations of Southern France,” an eight-day voyage that will take place aboard the company’s newly built Emerald Liberté.

The sailing takes passengers from Lyon to Arles along the picturesque Rhône and Saône Rivers, passing through Chalon-Sur-Saône, Tournon and Avignon, where guests will be treated to an on-board, Provençal style dinner by acclaimed local chef and Top Chef France finalist, Fabien Morreale.

Thirty departures between April and October, 2017 start at US$2,645 per person, double occupancy.

The itinerary offers plenty of opportunities along the route to sample the wines and foods for which this region is so famous, but perhaps the most exciting is an on-board dinner cooked for guests by acclaimed French chef, Fabien Morreale.

Chef Morreale hails from Martigues, a coastal town near Marseille where he owns two restaurants: La Garage and Le Gusto Caffé. He was a competitor on Top Chef France, where he made it to the final four, and is dedicated to cooking with the freshest local ingredients.

“Cooking with my grandmother is the basis of everything I know about food,” says Morreale, “and it’s where I developed my palate.” The chef likes to use traditional Provençal and Mediterranean ingredients in his cooking, employing hints of Asian influence as well. “Guests will enjoy discovering the variety of products from the Valley of Les Baux-de-Provence used to create original and creative dishes,” Morreale says.

For those wishing to extend their stay in France, Emerald Waterways offers the opportunity to spend time exploring Paris and Nice. Guests wishing to see Paris can add a three-night stay at the beginning or end of the sailing with a package that includes accommodations, daily breakfast, one dinner, a city tour and the chance to tailor the stay with a Discover More tour to Versailles.

Packages start at US$875 per person. While in Nice, guests can discover Monte Carlo the capital of Monaco, an independent state on France’s Mediterranean coastline known for its glitzy casinos, yacht-lined harbor and prestigious Grand Prix motor race. This extension package contains three-night accommodations, guided tour of Monte Carlo, day trip to Cannes and the Grasse Perfumery, breakfast daily and one dinner starting at US$785 per person.

The Emerald Liberté will carry 138 guests in 70 suites and staterooms, with a three-to-one guest/crew ratio. Guests have a choice of two restaurants—Reflections, the main dining room, and The Terrace for light breakfast and lunch—and will enjoy accommodations in the signature Emerald Waterways cabin design that replaces the French balcony, common to most ships, with an indoor balcony complete with decked area and an ingenious open-air system. All ships feature an onboard hairdresser, massage therapy room and fitness area, as well as bicycles free for use by all guests.

Emerald Waterways caters to the four-star-plus market by using deluxe ships and service and an incredibly inclusive pricing plan. The cruise fare includes some flights (depending on market and special offers); all transfers; all onboard (and some on-shore) meals; unlimited tea and coffee, wine, beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner; bottled water in the cabins replenished daily; continental breakfast, pre-dinner canapés and after-dinner sweet treats served in the top suites; complimentary Wi-Fi onboard the ship; most shore excursions as well as all onboard and excursion gratuities.
