EXECUTION!

Sunday afternoons are special to me since I get to watch the last round of the weekly PGA golf tournament. These guys are good. These guys are really good. Yet every once in a while, you see the human side of really good millionaires. They too miss-hit golf balls now and then and bring hope to us amateurs. Hey! I’ve missed a number of gimme putts a number of times. In fact, more times than I would like to remember.

Lets see how many “State-of-the-art” motivational buzz words you can list in 10 seconds: GO!

Focus; energy; commitment; goals; objectives; planning; results; outcome; vision; positioning; success; fear; trial; error; fun.

Stop!

Right you are.  There are a million of them.  But there is one thing they all have in common: they are all  “empty” thoughts, unless you introduce a second word to each. We are reminded shot after shot on Sunday afternoon. “It’s a matter of execution.” These five words clearly position today’s message.

Execution is the key my friends.  That’s the secret. Execution is the differentiating factor.  Talk is cheap!  The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Sooner or later, you have to do something. You can read about it. You can study it. You can talk about it. You can even write about it. But sooner or later, (preferably sooner) you have to do something about it.

Two strategies come to mind when I think of execution:

Strategy #1.  Ready! Aim! Fire.

Strategy #2. Ready. Fire! Aim.

The operative word in both scenarios is the word “fire.”  In today’s message, the word fire equates to the concept of execution.

Fire = Execution

Looking back on my 68 years more often than not, I find myself practicing strategy number Strategy #2.  By adopting #2 (Ready/Fire/Aim) one is immediately introduced to a few more blunders coupled with a plethora of  painful miscues, along with more than one’s share of public embarrassments and humiliations.

But on the other hand, choice #1 (Ready/Aim/Fire) comes with a lot less fun, jocularity, and unbelievable heart stopping war stories.

I guess it all boils down to the way you want to arrive at your personal “finish line.” Either way, whether you decide to play with a carefully thought out game plan, or with reckless abandonment coupled with a modicum of impetuous behavior, the key will always be how effectively you execute.

I want you to focus on the concept of execution.  Put another way…..MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN!
