PictureSometimes referred to as The Venice of the North, Bruges is a picturesque magical city sure to woo any who visit. With cobblestone streets dotted with markets and breezy canals so perfect you could paint a picture, Bruges has much to offer anyone whether a visitor or resident. One of the most prominent sights that can be found in Bruges is the Belfry of Bruges located in the center of the city. Formerly used to house a treasury and the municipal archives, the Belfry of Bruges also served as an observation post for spotting fires and other dangers to the city. The building, which stands 272 ft. in height, is accessible to the public up a steep and narrow 366 step staircase leading to the top of the building. One of the most unique features of the Belfry of Bruges is its 87 centimeter lean to the east.

The Church of Our Lady is another of the many marvels of Bruges. Dating  from the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries, the tower of this medieval church is the tallest structure in the city, and the second tallest brickwork tower in the world. It stands at 377 ft. in height. Within the church you will find a largely celebrated piece of artwork: a white marble sculpture of the Madonna and Child created by Michelangelo. You will also find exquisite woodcarvings and paintings throughout the church. The tombs of Charles the Bold and his daughter are also located in the church, in the choir space behind the alter. The artistic and religious history of the church make it one of the most interesting places to visit in Bruges.
