It Always Looks Greener On The Other Side Of The Fence

I spoke with three different associates of mine this week, and was reminded during each call that it isn’t always what it appears to be out there in the business world.

Sure, we read in the morning papers how large corporations are laying people off by the thousands, but in most cases we can’t identify with those numbers. After all, you and I are “the little guys” eking out a living from day to day the best way we know how.

For a number of reasons we seem to feel that our peers and our competitors are all doing well, or at least better than we are.

One reason for this is that as a general rule, our friends are not whiners and complainers. So not to appear as bummers, they put on a happy face. And we “buy” it.

Well last week during my phone calls, I heard a different story from more than one person. The fact that their web sites, their promotions, and their books and videos all “appear” like best sellers, there is a darker side to their stories.

Without exception (on these three phone calls) my friends all shared their anxiety in trying to locate a little more action. Very interesting!

Why am I sharing this with you?

If you are like most of us working slugs, you will periodically go through periods of doubt and you will begin to question why you are not doing better. “What are they doing right that I am doing wrong?” you ask yourself.

Without knowing your situation, I can’t answer that. In fact, you may indeed be doing something wrong, but on the other hand you may be doing nothing wrong. You just may be doing NOTHING.

Assuming for the sake of argument that you are doing “something,” I want to remind you that it is the year 2017 and the chances are better than good that you are just one of the gang who are playing by the rules and finding it a steady and uphill battle.

Do I ever feel like this? Of course I do. And that is when I pick up the phone and call one of my friends and try to find a reason to laugh.

Whoever said “it is a jungle out here” knew exactly what they were talking about. And that is as true for me as it is for you. The answer is to keep on keeping on. Don’t quit until that is your absolute last move. Don’t make excuses. Don’t whine and never lose confidence in yourself.

There are hundreds if not thousands of people who do not have what you have and are doing just fine today, thank you. It is now your turn.

Show me what you have.
