You Are a Marketing Specialist!

Today’s Message: Use your business cards more often.

Playing off the theme of a previous message, I will refer to a professional golfer’s bag of tricks.

He/she is limited to the number of clubs they can carry and use each week to ply their trade. Some are used for the short game, while others are used to whack the blazes out of the ball. When used properly, the desired result often occurs when one selects the proper tool.

One of your tools (clubs) happens to be the simple business card. You all have them, but I am quick to remind you that not all of you carry them. (Shame on you)

In a recent edition of the Florida Sun Sentinel newspaper I was reminded once again of the power and usefulness of this small “billboard.” And that is exactly what it is…a billboard that effectively advertises you and your service.

Here are three reminders worth internalizing:

  1. Show your business. A photo of your hotel, warehouse, factory, or products says more than words.
  2. Show your face. Printing costs for photos are down. Your face is unique. (My mug is on my card)
  3. Get creative. Textures, colors, drawings or unusual sizes can stand out from the pack. (See my caveat below)

Marchev Caveat: Don’t get too creative. I’ve seen it too many times where people use too many fonts and pretty graphics which they personally fall in love with. Remember to “create” for the reader.

This is just one of the tools you have, but it happens to be the one that is easiest to use and easier to abuse. Carry them. Hand them out. Be proud of what/who they represent.

This week, like every week…have fun making a difference.
