The Mind Quits First!

Under the pressure of day-to-day business, it will sometime sound like a good idea to “throw in the towel”… to quit. For some of you, this may very well be sage advice. For most of you, however, it will prove to be a huge mistake.

Regardless of your industry, job, position, or experience, there will be times when you will decide that a Hot Dog Truck sounds like a better career option… a welcomed change of pace… a much needed break.

Ask any Hot Dog Wagonneer if they have any problems in the tube-steak business? I’m betting they do. I know that they do. And a few of their problems might make your problems seem like small inconveniences.

As cliché-ish as this may sound, there just isn’t any easy way out of this thing called life. We are all in this together. A life by its very definition is one uncomfortable situation followed by a bright sunny day.

Hold your horses. We all go through doubts. We all find ourselves questioning our latest decisions. We all wonder at times if there is a better way… easier way… more profitable and rewarding way. We all question the sanity of it all, and yes, even our reason for being.

We all wonder… we all second-guess ourselves.

When your mind starts to play games with you (and it will) fight back by doing something you have always wanted to do

  1. Define in concrete terms whom you would like to meet and eventually do some business with.
  2. Clean up your outdated database. Get rid of “yesterday’s news” and add “today’s opportunities.”
  3. Begin writing a rough draft for that Special Report you know you should be “rough drafting.” Title: WHAT EVERYBODY SHOULD KNOW ABOUT MY BUSINESS BUT DOESN’T… AND WHY THEY SHOULD BE DOING BUSINESS WITH ME.

These are just a few ideas to stimulate your creative juices. You can’t allow your mind to go negative on you and get in the way of your forward progress. Trust me. It will try.

I learned this lesson while training for the Ironman Triathlon a number of years ago. Your mind quits first.

Just when it seems that your body can’t take another step, when you are fatigued and you feel that you are going to fall down and never get up, your body finds some hidden energy reserve and you keep going.

It is your mind that will quit on you first. Or at the very least, it will try to get you to quit if you let it. It is your mind you have to train and continue to strengthen.

“As a man thinketh, so he becomes” were the words of James Allen. I’m not sure who this guy was or his claim to fame, but I do know that very smart people have been reciting his quote for many years.

Once you learn to control your mind all else will fall into place. Don’t allow your mind to quit first.
