Bliss Honeymoons, LLC — Wrapping it all up

It seems like it was just a couple of weeks ago that I wrote my first agent diary article outlining my goals for 2009. While the calendar shows that nearly 12 months have passed, it hardly seems possible.

As you may recall, I had two major objectives this year-to gain 100 new clients in 100 days and to figure out what it would really take to complete all of my New Year’s resolutions. It became obvious by day 90 that my resolution was overly ambitious and I revised the goal to 100 new clients in the year! I am very excited to say that while I didn’t quite make it to 100 new clients, I did make it more than three quarters of the way there, exceeded my sales goals and surpassed last year’s sales. I also managed to mark off all but one of my resolutions off my list. Here’s how I did it:

First, I created a list of things that I needed to accomplish. Just writing them down made me more committed. Next, I employed a process known as “backwards planning”, where I viewed the end result, and then worked backwards to figure out all the steps that it would take to reach the end result that I was seeking. Then I scheduled these tasks in my Outlook task planner. Finally, I checked in on myself at the end of each quarter to view my progress, and determine what still needed done.

Resolving to accomplish all of your New Year’s resolutions takes an incredible amount of focus and self discipline. At one point I realized that I had spent so much time and energy focusing on the end result that I hadn’t taken a day off, or stopped to appreciate what was happening now. However, by committing to these goals, and not giving myself the option of not completing them, I also managed to completely opt out of the recession. I had no choice.

Having my ups and downs published in the Agent Diary series for everyone to see certainly helped keep me on track as well. I couldn’t swallow the thought of having to post that I had not followed through on my commitments.

I just started thinking about 2010 and what lies ahead. Now that I know that it really is possible to keep your New Year’s resolutions, I’ll have to raise the bar to come up with greater challenges for the New Year.

Thank you so much to everyone that followed along with us over the last 12 months. We wish you the best in 2010.
