Turks and Caicos by Vacation Express

As the spring season prepares to make its shift to summer, “beach” is a word that is on everyone’s mind.  Defrosting is what’s needed after a harsh winter, and what better way to do it than on the Best Beach in the World?  That’s right, you read that correctly – The Best Beach in the World. Many places can claim to have that title, but only the Turks and Caicos can fully back up such a bold statement.

The wonderful people of the Turks and Caicos don’t understand the idea of sub-par; they have an all-or-nothing mentality.  And whether that refers to their world-class hotels and spas, famous diving and snorkeling, or just the most comfortable beach chair in existence, you will find top-notch everything on the islands.

Overview of the Islands

Consisting of over 40 different islands and cays, only 8 are inhabited.  That means there are over 30 islands that are completely unmanned, which gives a whole new meaning to the word “undiscovered.”  From the capital island, Grand Turk, to the relaxed North and Middle Caicos, which are a fantastic representation of the islands’ ecosystem, you will never find an island that doesn’t hold something of great interest to you.Picture

No matter where you go, you’ll be greeted by perfection.  Those with a passion for watersports will be in heaven, and those who enjoy kicking back and soaking in the rays will be beyond content.  Fear not, for if you love the outdoors and everything it entails, you have found your paradise.

History and Culture

Did you know that Christopher Columbus made a pit stop on Grand Turk when he discovered the new world in 1492?  The islands have a vast history, including remnants of culture from the native tribes, the Taino and Lucayan Indians.  Another one of the islands’ claims to fame is their love of conchs, which are available in mass quantities due to the Caicos Conch farm…the only one in the world.

The people of Turks and Caicos are a very relaxed people, proud of their past but who welcome visitors with open arms to explore their islands.  The official time is island time, so if you are looking for a place to wind down and get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, this is the place.  Plus, this paradise is only about an hour from Miami and a little over two hours from New York, time lost traveling is not a factor.  There really is nothing to lose when visiting.

Dining

Along with the aforementioned conch, the food of the Turks and Caicos is one of variety.  From bars and grills to Italian, steakhouses and delis, your options are plenty.  Each island caters to a different flavor, so in order to get the full experience, some island hopping is highly recommended and encouraged.

Evening and Other Fun

As expected with any island nation, partying is considered a pastime.  Making friends out of fellow tourists and locals alike while sipping on the local Caribbean flavors and dancing the night away is the norm, as is bar hopping throughout the different venues on the islands.

PictureIf taking risks is more up your alley, Turks and Caicos are home to more than 25 casinos, which also serve as some of the biggest nightlife locations.  No matter your preference, such venues as The Players’ Club offers blackjack, poker, and over 100 gaming machines, while Casablanca Casino is home to a dozen live game tables.

Shopping and Getting Around

Designer clothing and accessories?  Check.  Gorgeous works of art from both local artists and artists throughout the Caribbean?  Check.  Just about anything you’re after can be found in the Turks and Caicos, with shops conveniently located on all of the populated islands.   Most of the commerce centers are located outdoors, which only adds to the island theme and takes shopping to a completely new level.

With three flights from Miami and one from JFK daily, there is no problem getting down to the islands.  And once you’re there, getting around is a piece of cake.  Taxi cabs, rental cars, bicycles, boats – whichever your preference, the Turks and Caicos have it covered.  Boat is the recommended mode of transportation, especially in between the islands, as it allows you to appreciate the pristine waters and get every minute out of your trip.

The Turks and Caicos should not be left off your trip list, and if you hurry now, you can score some great deals just in time for summer.

  1. I like what you have to say about Turks and Caicos. Everyone wants to go there but they don’t have the money to get there. I have tried several times only to be turned down when it comes to money.

I wonder if at any time do they have discounted prices?

I will print out this information for my clients and me—-I hope that I can get my customers to look pass the $$$$$ signs.

    I welcome the newsletters.
