Simply Europe Travel – Are the downers dragging you down?

Do you find yourself involved in self-sabotage?   If so you’re not alone, I do it too.

I’ve always struggled with self-confidence.  Whenever I start to succeed, sometimes I find myself not taking that critical next step toward my goal.  I tend to do this when things are going along great and then all of a sudden I get scared.  Yes, I get scared of success.

For a while, I found comfort in a group of people willing to lament with me.  They let me cry on their shoulders, told me nice things that tickled my ears, like, “you tried,” and, “its ok that things didn’t work out.”  They were trying to make me feel “better” so that was ok, but in reality it wasn’t helping me.

I know that most of these folks mean well, but you always need to be careful of a few.  When I heard, “what in the world were you thinking anyway” or “you should have known you wouldn’t be able to do that,” I realized that these folks were more of a hindrance than help.  When I asked myself, “do they really want me to succeed, or do they just want me to remain the same because change makes them uncomfortable,” I began to see the light!

What I needed was a Success Team; and I suggest that you get one too!  A Success Team is a group of people who will cheer you on; not letting you give up at the very first sign of a struggle.  They are your personal cheerleaders who want you to succeed!  They will be there pushing you toward success, like a personal trainer who will keep encouraging you, especially when you think your body has given all that it has to give.  A mentor, a coach or a business trainer will stretch you and hold you accountable.

Surround yourself with bright, positive people.  Energy spreads–be it positive or negative, so make sure you’re interacting with positive thinkers.  Be a positive person yourself and make sure to be an encourager to others!   If you find yourself going on the “downer track,” change course.  Saying something positive out loud will usually do the trick.  “The truth is that this will take effort, but I am able to do it!” is one of my favorite things to say out loud.

By maintaining a positive attitude and surrounding yourself with a Success Team, you are taking a very important step toward your goals.  Remember, just one constant positive action at a time will eventually lead you to where you want to go!

I’d love to hear who you have on your “Success Team.”

Absolutely! I feel you should ALWAYS surround yourself with bright, intelligent and fun people! I don’t want to be surrounded by “yes” people, but I do want to be around POSITIVE people! Great post 🙂
