How do you connect the dots?

I have two explanations as connecting the dots can be interpreted in two different ways. Firstly, in my coaching practice, I like to refer to your dots as your personal priorities. When you identify your core value(s) and then live them with authenticity, you see the world in a much simpler and straight forward manner. Relationships in life and business take on more meaning as you are more genuine in your day to day encounters. Connecting the dots here means you are aligning your gut, heart, and head in both emotional and logical ways that produce a win-win outcome.

An easy and practical example here would be staring a new habit of getting up earlier to maximize your days’ results. In order to get up earlier you would have to go to bed earlier the night before to ensure you had enough rest to perform at such a new optimized level the next day. Connecting the dots is about taking into consideration as many variables as you can before making the best decision.

A second explanation of connecting the dots is in a professional manner, specifically regarding your business development. Again, when your core values are in check and you live and conduct business with sincere authenticity, opportunities better present themselves openly and freely. Connecting the dots here means you are aligning your brand with other brands that can co-exist and complement each other. Great travel entrepreneurs are always connecting…call them the new ABC’s of Sales – Always Be Connecting (online and off!).

A recent example of co-branding that many people can relate to are Nike and Apple. Both brands core values exhibit health, choice, lifestyle, freedom, and mobility. This natural co-branded relationship has made millions for both companies! The branding gods from both companies “connected the dots” and developed cool new products that benefited their customers and each company.

A travel business example might be a honeymoon and destination wedding travel specialist co-branding with a local bridal wedding photographer. I recommend that you meet with and discuss ways to use each other’s services in a meaningful, productive, and profitable way, both in your online and offline community.

Take the time on a daily basis to think creatively on how you can “connect the dots” and align your brand with others who share the same core-values that you do to grow your business. Opportunity is everyone…you just need to begin connecting the dots!
