Encore Romance Travel – Buffets, burnout, and puppies

My road to entrepreneurship has been a long and bumpy one. I have hung on so long; and now I realize I need a break. Any kind of break in order to stop, breathe and jump back on the bandwagon. I’m at that point. I’m juggling the business, a demanding leadership position with the US Army Reserve, and taking two college courses for good measure. You know, just because I thought I didn’t have enough on my plate.

I feel like the hungry girl at the buffet line, piling stuff on my plate just because it looks good. My mind has not been my own for the last few weeks, I’ve been waking up and going to sleep with business thoughts on my mind not to mention, the other thoughts; the ones that keep nagging me because I’m not getting enough stuff done as fast as I would like.

I need a break. It seems like everywhere I turn people are talking about it. I came across a few articles just in the last few days about prioritizing your life into what matters the most. A blogger even suggested a Social Media break in order to reconnect with those that really matter to us, like family and friends—remember them?

The more I thought about it I realized that I don’t go anywhere without that little 4” screen in my hand and that if I sit still for more then 10 minutes, that little screen seemingly morphs into a larger 9.7” one.  I’m constantly messaging, checking emails, my newsletter open rates or the analytics of my website performance; it’s like an obsession. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I noticed how my puppy would jump on my lap and push the screen away from me with her paws demanding attention.  I’ve been looking at a screen from sun up to sun down and it needs to stop. I need to get back to those that matter the most, my family. I wanted to be an entrepreneur to have the flexibility of spending time with them but it’s been the opposite.

So, I am going on a social media detox, will you join me? Let’s lay off the social media websites and online games (hey, I can admit it—how about you?) and let’s get back to work. I dare you to not only announce it on your business channels but also to invite your followers to do the same. Let’s #connectwitheachother and discover #whatmattersthemost. I’m sure many of you feel the same way. You determine how long it lasts. Me?  I’ll be #technofree for 15 days.

Well, when you finally get back on line to read this, Brenda, I’m with you all the way! Thank goodness, I never jumped with both feet on to that band wagon. I only spend 1-2 hours a day on line, and even that is too much.

Good thought and let us know who it is working. I also need a break from all tech stuff!

I took a few days off last week but was still checking email at 5am and again at 5pm.

    Brenda,
This was a great article! I too find myself out on dates with my husband checking the social media updates or emails via my smartphone. I go to bed late at night or fall asleep on the chaise in my office….so not a cool way for me to start a marriage I know. I so look forward to my personal vacations that also tend to turn into business but I’m making a promise to dedicate more time to my family and less time to technology!

I’m currently on a FAM, as soon as I return next week. I’m going dark!

I’ve been off Facebook for the last 2 weeks, scheduled to go back on next Monday, I can honestly say it has been wonderful and has given me ample time to think about my business, my friends and family and how to use social media to enhance my business without consuming my time. I’m loving it!
