  • Although geographically the smallest state on the Australian mainland, Victoria is the second-most populous state overall with bustling cities, sandy beaches, diverse wildlife, various parks and historical sites, and an eclectic dining scene.
  • As Victoria’s capital city, Melbourne embodies excellence and glamour with tons of shopping, a passion for food and wine, dozens of festivals and events, luscious gardens and parks, and a love for the arts. Check out the Melbourne Aquarium or the Immigration Museum at Flinders Street. Take the City Circle Tram around the city centre to see some of Melbourne’s top attractions. There are many ways to explore Victoria’s capital.
  • Before European settlement, the areas of New South Wales and Victoria were originally inhabited by a group of Aborigines, known as the Koori.  Most of their history is displayed in the rock art, paintings, wood carvings and sculptures found throughout these two areas. Visit any of the Aboriginal rock art shelters to view fascinating displays of art and artifacts and to listen to the stories of the Australian natives. (Manja and Billimina shelters in the Western Grampians, Ngamadjidj and Gulgurn Manja shelters in the north and, Bunjil’s shelter near Stawell)
  • Victoria’s history also expands to hold some of the most significant moments in Australian history, like the gold rush of the 1850s, the legend of the famous bushranger Ned Kelly, and the first federal parliament. Learn more about Victorian history by walking through a few of the museums, including the Melbourne Museum and the Hellenic Museum.
  • Arrange a day to get out of the city and explore the beautiful Victorian countryside along the Great Ocean Road. Specifically built for tourists, the Great Ocean Road is 180 miles of winding road exploring the astounding Ocean scenery, including the Twelve Apostles and the protected Otways rain forest.
  • Just an hours drive from the city of Melbourne, Yarra Valley boasts 55 world-class wineries and dozens of fine restaurants. With rolling hills and boundless vineyards, this area is a mecca of stunning scenery with wines to match. The cool-climate produced wine was the first of its kind in Victoria, and remnants of early beginnings can be found throughout the vineyards in rustic tin sheds hidden among the vines. Visit the glass wall tasting room at Domaine Chandon or De Bortoli winery’s Italian restaurant and vineyard, to name a few.
  • Throughout Victoria you’ll discover an endless array of natural landscapes and iconic wildlife. Whether you’re walking the white sandy beaches, trekking the lush green rain forests, or exploring the park reserves, there are endless opportunities to come up close and personal with natural inhabitants.
  • Take a trip out to Phillip’s Island to see the renowned Penguin Parade, a fascinating display of penguins waddling back to shore from a long day at sea. The Melbourne Zoo and the new Birrarung  Marr gardens also offer a stunning glimpse into Australian wildlife.
  • Victorian cuisine is an eclectic mix of international flavors, so when you arrive, you better have an appetite. The city of Melbourne prides itself on its food, with hundreds of dining options and growing culinary reputation. From fine-dining to cheap eats and everything in between, Victoria and its cities can satisfy even the pickiest of palettes.
