How To Become A Rain Maker: Eliminate “I”

“The only thing customers care about is themselves and their problem.”

How To Become a Rainmaker: by Jeffrey J. Fox, page 12

Chapter 4: Customers Don’t Care About You

Like it or not, believe it or not, the only reason you are standing in front of a prospect or client is because they think that you can do something for them.

This may prove to be the hardest thing you have to overcome this year. Every chance you get, try eliminating the pronoun “I” from your daily communications and replace it with the pronoun “you.”

Sounds easy, doesn’t it? It isn’t.

Not unlike everybody else, customers are tightly focused on their own well-being. The sooner you can convey to them that you truly are interested in them, the closer you will get to cashing their checks.

As an interesting exercise, start eliminating the pronoun “I” from your every daily discussions and insert the pronoun you in its place.

I am sure that you are a nice person. But that is a discussion for another day. Focus on your customers and you will live to fight another day.
