“What separates Nordstrom from its competitors is its army of highly motivated, self-empowered people who have an entrepreneurial spirit.”
The Nordstrom Way – by Robert Spector & Patrick D. McCarthy, page 23
Chapter 1: America’s #1 Customer Service Company
One of the things I have noticed over the years is that most people who enter the travel industry look, think, and act pretty much the same. The reason for this may be due to ease of entry into the game, who knows? Who cares?
You are the only one who counts. How you choose to go to market, demonstrate your contributions, and deliver a worthwhile service to your carefully targeted audience will determine your future.
It certainly won’t hurt if you select a winning company as your role model. Nordstrom is as good as any.
Whether you have a small staff or you have chosen to “go-it-alone,” it will take a focused motivation by all employees to weather the challenges that are sure to appear as you move forward.
The attitude and “spirit” necessary can be referred to as entrepreneurial or just plain down-to-earth tenacity. Realizing and understanding that your future lies entirely in your hands implies the self-empowerment.
The message here is that it is up to you to make your future by believing in yourself, doing what needs doing, and to keep in mind that there will be a number of highs and lows.
Note: If you work alone, you are still your “employee.”
