Launch: The Power is in the List

“The first step in your seed launch is to build some type of micro list.”

Amazon was the first company who saw the value in building “the list.” Look at them now. “The Power Is In The List.” That holds true in my business and it holds true in your business.

What caught my attention in the above quote was the word “micro”. That word got me thinking.

I would like to see you have a “micro” list with your local newspaper travel editors prominently displayed with easy-to-retrieve contact information. I would also like to recommend that you build a second “micro” list differentiating prospects in their specific vacation interests. One list would consist of people interested in Disney while another list would comprise of those interested in cruising to Alaska. You get the idea.

This in and of itself is a good idea. It is human nature to procrastinate, however, and that is why many good ideas don’t come to fruition. The thought is there, but it appears to be too much like work to follow through. We must make our jobs easier. One way to do this is by splitting our contact list into smaller, more focused lists, hence the reference to the “micro” list.

Rudimentary familiarization with a spreadsheet will help make this a doable task. Another suggestion is to focus on one micro list at a time. Walk before you run.

Once you do have your list in place, I want you to remember the Rule of Seven, which reminds us that in order to do business with somebody we must contact them a minimum of seven times and each 18 month period. The number seven and 18 is of little significance. The rule clearly states that we must be persistent in our contact or else we soon become forgettable. Don’t become forgettable. Practice The Rule of 7.
