Hot Button Marketing: Fun is its Own Reward

“Life is short. Meetings are dull. Selling is stressful. None of these alleged truisms have to be true if you add fun and games to the marketing mix.”

Hot Button Marketing by Barry Feig, page 144

Nobody appreciates the brevity of life better than a guy or gal who is looking at 60 years in the rearview mirror. It becomes crystal-clear that the remaining years must be filled with purpose and enjoyment.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that very few people come to genuine terms with the fact that life is indeed finite. Life needs to be lived to the fullest.

Although I have been away from the corporate meeting syndrome for many years, I can remember my skin crawling as the minutes passed without much being said. As for sales, it is high time that we stop flattering ourselves and start realizing that “helping people” does not have to be stressful. In fact, it is a calling in which you cannot lose. When the selling process ends with a positive result, you win. When things do not go the way you had planned, you break even. (You didn’t lose. You never had the account in the first place.)

Sometimes at the risk of sounding foolish (and even childish), I have been known to exhibit a fun and worry-free lifestyle. I was recently reminded that a full 80% of what we worry about never comes to fruition.

If you don’t happen to be Jerry Lewis or Lucille Ball, it may not be your best interest to be silly or goofy in front of your prospects or clients. There will always be room however, to show your true personality and collectively relish in a funny good story coupled with a quick smile.

Life is short. Live large. Be you.
