En Route Travel – Organizing the act I got together

Since fall is a bit slower, I’ve been taking the extra time to enhance my knowledge on agent incentive programs and destination knowledge.  It’s really amazing how much there is to learn and what a challenge it is to stay updated with relevant information! Many hotels and resorts offer agent rewards that I was not even aware of, but have now registered.

This is great motivation to see new places, and it always feels good to know your hard work is rewarded.  I have decided to put many of these on “autopilot” so that I can rack up the rewards without a lot of tracking, and most programs already do this, but always verify that all of your bookings are included.  In working with or meeting suppliers, I have made it a habit to ask about any special programs they have currently for agents – quite a few are seasonal, I have discovered.

I’ve also been sure to give a lot of positive feedback and gratitude to the suppliers with generous programs in place.  In the busy-ness of everyday work, I’ve often overlooked those programs and would not want to miss out!

My other goal for this month was to organize some files with a few relevant articles and resources to enhance my destination knowledge with the idea of passing this along to my clients as interest comes along.  In focusing so heavily on client relations and sales, it’s easy to forget that a key to success is our superior knowledge!  It is impossible to be an expert in every destination, and I do rely on specialists and websites—you never know when you will get a call and don’t want to be caught off guard.  I’m reminded of that saying, “You never know what you don’t know.”

In organizing the week, I plan on deliberately scheduling at least 2 webinars or meetings to become better versed in a product.  I also plan to incorporate the information in my monthly newsletter as a “Featured Destination” to hopefully pique some interest from clients.  This becomes a win/win for the investment of my time!

Enjoy October and looking forward to a productive season!
