Ideas Can Be Beautiful Things!

We all have ideas. Ideas are sometimes a dime a dozen. The truth is that most ideas die on the vine without being given the opportunity to prove themselves as ‘great ideas’ or otherwise. Ideas can disappear as fast as they appear.

I read this last week: “We all get great ideas while taking a shower. Too bad 99% of them stay in the shower.” How true it is.

When asked why people don’t act on a particular brain-child, three of the more popular knee-jerk excuses include:

  • would have done it if I had more money
  • could have tried it if I had more time
  • should have called them but…..

These excuses are designed to save face, but are nothing more than feeble ways of saying “I don’t know why I didn’t try it. I guess I just took the easy way out.”

Let’s focus on becoming the exception.

Once you have a notion to do something, do it. Don’t think it to death. And don’t procrastinate until you forget what it is you were going to try. Another favorite phrase of mine is: “Management’s job is to get things rolling.”

Here is another saying that may be outdated but is true as rain: “A task begun is half done.” In other words, give your ideas a shot. Get them off the dime and into time.

I have always said that one of the most powerful words in the English language is the word “IDEA.”

Ideas are good things. Ideas are exciting things. Ideas are intriguing things. Ideas are fun to have and fun to try. People like to hear about ideas, and be around people who have ideas. Have an idea….and then do something with it.

Not all ideas work. Most ideas don’t. As a matter of fact, most ideas don’t ever leave the new idea launching pad. But you are the exception, remember? For the next 30 days, work on generating more ideas. Share them with your prospects and customers. In other words, share a few action thoughts with people you wouldn’t mind doing business with.

‘Blow in their ear.’ Say something to them that might even lead them to having a few ideas of their own. How cool would that be?

Be careful though. This soon could become addictive behavior…..so much fun in fact, that you will soon be making this a way of life —- a regular daily occurrence. You may even become known as the ‘idea maven.’

As soon as you act on your ideas you eliminate the term ‘woulda-coulda-shoulda’ from your vocabulary and this in and of itself propels you toward ‘exceptionalism’.

Soon, a new and exciting you will rule your days. You will be more fun to be around and have around. And that, my friends, is a goal worth shooting for. But a reminder is in order. You can’t become depressed or disappointed when your idea or ideas do not bring others to their feet. Just keep thinking. Just keep doing.
