  • Cornwall is a ceremonial county forming the westernmost part of the South West Peninsula of Great Britain. The area has been inspiring to many, from authors to artists and musicians. It has many unique features, a vivid history, and activities that make it a destination that should be considered on any vacation to the United Kingdom. One of the most exciting areas that Cornwall has to offer is The Eden Project. One of the most popular visitor attractions in the county, the Eden Project consists of two large enclosures and many smaller, adjoining domes. These enclosures with their attachments each act as individual biomes that contain thousands of plant life and simulate different environments. Explore a Rainforest in one, and a Mediterranean climate in the other. The Eden Project also boasts an education facility complete with exhibits and classrooms to teach about the relationship between human life and plant life, which is the overall goal of the project. A botanical garden as well as sculpture art can also be found on the properties, giving all ages something to marvel at while learning in the process.
  • Cornwall is home to 300 miles of the South West Coast Path, England’s longest way-marked foot path. It is also a National Trail, and spending an afternoon walking through Cornwall’s beautiful portion of this trail will make any trip to the area complete. With longer and shorter paths of varying difficulty to choose from, even the least experience trail hiker will have a blast! Walk along the coastline and take in the breathtaking views of the waters below as the trail winds and dips in front of you. The westernmost point of Cornwall is Land’s End, a wonderful area to spend the day while on your U.K vacation. Stop in the Penwith House Gallery and socialize with the resident artist; maybe you will even with a new piece of art for your home! Greeb Farm is fun for the whole family, especially those with small children. Complete with sheep, goats, rabbits, mini ponies, pigs, and even ferrets it is a hands-on way to experience the small holdings that once doted the shoreline of this area of Cornwall. Even more unique about Greeb Farm is the converted barn, which is now used as a working space for the craftspeople of Land’s End. You can watch them hard at work on pottery pieces, glass, and even jewelry.
  • Lizard Point, located at the southern tip of the peninsula, is another part of Cornwall to delve into on your vacation. Lizard Lighthouse is the only lighthouse in Cornwall that you can climb, and although it is operated automatically, it is still in operation today. At the Heritage Centre you can even go on a guided tour of the lighthouse and learn about its history, as well as the inner-workings of the mechanism. Lizard’s Point is dotted with many different coves, with one of the most popular being Kynance Cove. It is part of the National Trust and is also listed as a Cornwall Area of Outstanding Beauty. Be sure not to miss your chance to explore the cove, which is home to many different geological features. Pendennis Castle, a fortress built by Henry VIII to defend against invasion, is another exciting historical spot in Cornwall worth visiting. It is even home to an interactive exhibit where you can relive an enemy attack and simulates the sights and sounds of battle. You can even catch a tudor gun deck in action, and afterwards enjoy some refreshments in the tea room.
  • Flambards Theme Park is home to thrilling rides, hands on attractions, and interactive exhibits and is sure to make your trip to Cornwall a memorable one. From roller coasters to drop rides and giant swings, Flambards Theme Park has a touch of something for everyone in your travel group while offering an experience that is unique to the area. See the Jurassic Journey attraction where you can follow in the footsteps of dinosaurs, complete with many different life sized dinosaurs and even a “fossil dig” area for the kids! For more wildlife fun, check out the Cornish Seal Sanctuary. A place for injured seal pups to be nursed back to health, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary offers an array of experiences which even include feeding a seal! The Geevor Tin Mine, which is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is another part of history found in Cornwall that sets the county apart. The mines were in operation for almost 80 years, but has since be turned into a museum and heritage center left as a living history of a working mine. You can go through a mine tour complete with a guide and a hardhat! Geevor Tin Mine is also located in an Area of Outstanding Beauty.
  • The full experience of Cornwall would not be complete without trying one of the many outstanding restaurants located in the county. One of the best ways to enjoy an area is through its food, and Cornwall’s dining selection does just that. Do not miss a chance to eat at The Seafood Restaurant, which also happens to be one of the most popular restaurants in the U.K. Serving up fresh daily fish and seafood dishes, the latest menu was inspired by owner Rick Stein‘s original menu from when the restaurant first opened in 1975. For something a bit varied grab a meal at Kota Restaurant where the cuisine is known for fusing different flavors, though an Asian influence is apparent in the menu. For a casual afternoon meal stop in to Gusto Deli Bar, which serves Mediterranean style take-home dishes perfect for the middle of an adventure-filled day in Cornwall.

With wondrous coastal beauty and history at every turn, a trip to Cornwall is one that will not disappoint. Thanks to Back-Roads Touring your trip can be complete with a specialized tour.
