  • Central Vietnam is the geographical heart of the country, and one of the more popular of its regions. Each year many people flood to the area to explore its history and its many different cities. Hội An is the historic city located within Central Vietnam, and one of its most popular destinations. Found within Vietnam’s Quang Nam Province, Hội An has been noted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. One part of Hội An that makes the area within Central Vietnam so unique is the city’s historic district known as Old Town Hội An. It is this district that is known for being one of the most well-preserved examples of a South-East Asian trading port that dates from the 15th to the 19th century. Make sure to spend some time exploring this part of the city, for it will take your breath away.
  • Another popular area in Hội An to stop by and see while touring through Central Vietnam is the Japanese Covered Bridge, which is a prominent feature of the Old Town. The bridge was built to connect the area to the Chinese quarters on the opposite side, and dates back as early as the mid-15th century. Over the years since it was constructed, the distinct ornamentation of the bridge has stayed true to the original Japanese design. If you want to go even further into the culture surrounding the bridge, take some time to see the Buddhist temple built on the northern side of the bridge. The Japanese Covered Bridge is the only known covered bridge with a Buddhist Temple attached to it, another feature making it a unique spot to visit. The Tan Ky House is another popular site to examine in Hội An, Central Vietnam. Preserved for seven generations, this house was built over two centuries ago and exhibits a beautiful blend of Japanese and Chinese architecture. Inside the home you can see Chinese poems written in inlaid mother of pearl hanging from the ceiling; make sure not to miss the opportunity to stroll through the courtyard, which serves many different purposes ranging from energy efficiency to welcoming nature into the home.
  • An Bang Beach is not far from Hội An, and worth the trip for its beautiful horizons alone. A low key and laid back area, it is perfect to get away from the hustle and bustle of the cities. It functions as a perfect day trip, or even an overnight, when visiting Hội An. An expansive length of beautiful sand lined with trees and cool blue water will take you to paradise. The Assembly Hall of the Fujian Chinese Congregation is one last spot in Hội An that you should not miss on your trek through Central Vietnam. Murals depicting the Fujian families can be found on the hall’s walls, and in the last chamber of the stunning building is an alter with figures that stand for the 12 midwives, each of whom teaches a skill to an infant in its first year. Couples will leave offerings and come to pray at the alter for children.
  • Huế is another city in Central Vietnam that should be visited while you explore the center of the nation. It once served as the seat of the Nguyen Dynasty emperors; it was also the national capital from 1805-1945. Although the city has many sights to see, one of the most highly regarded must-see spots is the Imperial City, found within the walls of the Citadel. Together, these two features are some of the most popular and most visited sites in Huế . The Imperial City was built in 1362, taking about 200 years to complete. The grounds are protected by not only a ringed moat, but by fortified ramparts; it is this enclosure that is considered the Citadel. Inside the Imperial City are many different temples and places of worship, as well as articulately crafted ornate gates and entry ways. Put aside an afternoon and meander through the many different corners of the Imperial City, which also happens to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • The Pagoda of the Celestial Lady is a historic temple found within Huế, and another historical site to spend some time at while visiting Central Vietnam. It spans seven stories, and is even viewed as the unofficial symbol of the city; it can be found a little less than two miles from the Citadel. So, if you plan it right you can see all three areas in one day! The Pagoda of the Celestial Lady is situated off the banks of the Perfume River, which during the fall is full of orchids from upriver giving it its name. Da Nang is the largest city in Central Vietnam as well as one of the major port cities in the area, making it a city not to be missed on your Central Vietnam vacation. One of the most interesting features Da Nang and the surrounding area has to offer are the Marble Mountains: a cluster of five marble and limestone hills names after the five elements. With numerous cave entrances and tunnels in each mountain, it is a great way to get some fresh air and escape the crowds of city life. Littered throughout the mountains you will also find several Buddhist sanctuaries. Climb the 156 steps leading to the summit of Thuy Son, the only marble mountain accessible to visitors, and revel in the breathtaking view around you.
  • Da Nang’s Dragon Bridge is another site worth stopping to see as you travel through Central Vietnam. The bridge crosses over the River Han, and was designed to be shaped like a Dragon. Every Saturday and Sunday evening at 9pm, the bridge will breathe fire and water in a show for all to see. Make sure not to miss the show! The Han Market located in Da Nang is a great way to see the city in action. Located in the heart of the city, the Han Market offers over 28,000 square meters of shopping opportunities with all different vendors, from fruit and vegetable stands to dessert kiosks and fabric stalls. It is a lot to take in and a lot to see, so make sure to put aside enough time to fully enjoy it. For the thrill seekers in your group make sure to spend an afternoon at Asia Park, a theme park recently opened and located in Da Nang. Not only will you find thrill rides and a giant Ferris wheel, but Asia Park also has a cultural park where you can delve deeper into 10 different Asian countries. The park also has a garden area titled the Central Zone where the Ferris wheel and monorail are found, along with magnificent architectural works and plant life.
