Do It Today!

Those of you who know me probably already know what I am about to tell you. Those new to this column may find what I am about to say somewhat alarming. The fact is, and the truth is…I am a junkie…a bookstore junkie. I recall a recent “fix” coming from a St. Louis Airport bookstore. I walked in, I browsed, and I walked out $30 light.

To some of you (most of you) spending $30 (on a whim) for a bunch of paper bound into a pile of pages is not something that makes up your daily routine. It makes all the sense in the world to me. Who better to invest a couple of bucks in than myself, my most influential competitive edge.

The book purchased was written by a guy I recognized from a distance as he too was a member of the National Speakers Association. This was his second book.  The first was titled: “Shut Up. Stop Whining and Get a Life.”

The one in my hand was titled, “It’s Called Work For a Reason: Your Success Is Your Own Damn Fault.”

If you need to know, the author goes by the name of Larry Winget. Right after you finish reading Become The Exception, (but only if you have a thick skin), you can go out and pick up a copy of either book. Or you can grab the bull by the horns, and order your very own copy right now.

Here is a sample of Larry’s slant on life:

Page 68. TNT. Today, Not Tomorrow.

  • When should you call the customer? Today.
  • When should you praise the employee who did a great job? Today.
  • When should you thank a coworker for helping you on that project? Today.
  • When should you fire that incompetent employee? Today.
  • When should you clean your desk? Today.
  • When should you do anything worth doing? Today.
  • Not tomorrow. Never tomorrow. Always today.

Do you get the message? If not, get it. Then live it. Not tomorrow, today. Not later, now.

“You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading today.” – Abraham Lincoln

Have a great day. There is still plenty of quarter left. Take advantage of each and every day. 2018 will be here before you know it. Are putting something off than needs doing? Enough said.
