Here is my advice for you today: If you don’t want to regret your past, don’t screw up your future. And the future is now.
Woody Allen said it best when he said:
“I had great plans for myself when I started. I have not lived up to them. I’ve done some nice things. But I had bigger plans. What has made it double poignant is that I never was denied the opportunity. The only thing standing between me and greatness is me.”
And the only thing standing between you and greatness is you.
Are you living up to your plans for yourself? Whatever your definition for success is, have you achieved it yet? Are you on the road to achieving it? (Have you ever stopped long enough to define your idea of “success?”) Are you getting a little closer each day? If not, why not? The only thing standing between you and your goals may be you. In fact, I am betting it is you.
Think about whether you are helping your cause or standing in your own way. In all likelihood, it is not the economy. I don’t think the industry you chose has anything to do with it. Blaming your employees is a slur against your management acumen. The problem may be looking you in the mirror. The problem, in all probability, is you. And if it is you, then you are in perfect position to do something about it. You have all the opportunities necessary to make your life one big success story. All you have to do is identify the culprit and then start to fix the problem. And the fastest way to do this is to do something. Do anything. Just do.
If you do something right keep doing it. If you do something wrong, stop doing it and try something else. The remedy for making sure you don’t regret your past is to keep moving forward. As I have implied many times over the years, “Keep on keeping on.”
This week (today), start making your life work for you. Get out of your way and don’t waste time on regrets. They are yesterday’s news, and the future is yours for the taking. 2018 is the year you are going to make it all happen. No regrets.
