“I Know” Are My Two Least Favorite Words

If you are over the age of 35 and happen to have children, nephews, or neighbors over the age of 10, you know exactly what I am about to say. Young people seem to already “know” just about everything. This erroneous belief I am sad to say, is not limited to just young people. Based on too many personal observations, there are too many adults who seem to “know” everything they think they need to know.

Knowing is one thing. Doing something with what you know is an entirely different kettle of fish. Knowing and doing are two different things.

Some people may know what to do, what to say, what to think, what to try, what not to say, what not to do, and what not to think. It appears at face value that do truly “know.”

Case In Point.

A few weeks back I suggested to those who registered for my weekly marketing message to send a single “thank-you” card to somebody (anybody) in their personal universe. Just one. You guessed it. Virtually everybody responded with the two word phrase, “I know.”

Sure “they know.” In all probability their mothers told them to say thank-you, when to say thank-you, and how to say thank-you. So why do so many people who “know” still don’t “say thank you?”

Sending any form of appreciation to those in your life who have favorably contributed to your well-being, is a good idea. You already know this.

Why is it a good idea? Because it works. But you already “know” that. So why do so many people still avoid writing, calling, or emailing a quick and simple “thank-you” note?

When you come up with a good answer to that question, drop me an email and educate me. Until then, put your excuses aside and stop procrastinating. Start writing.

Become The Exception. Send a minimum of one “appreciation” communication each week. I know you know it. Now it is time to do it.
