#4: Your Tone Speaks Volumes

We all have our little problems and concerns. I am fully involved with mine, and quite frankly, I just don’t have the time or the interest to adopt yours as my own.

As a general rule, people like to be around people who appear to have their act together. With this in mind, here are three things to think about:

  1. Tune in to your tone when speaking on the telephone. What you were thinking may not be what others are hearing. Without body language the listener has only your tone to interpret your message.
  2. When feeling less than energized, stay off the phone. If you feel obligated to answer it, you better be good at pretending that you are feeling good.
  3. Remember that 100% of your marketing dollars are spent for a single purpose. And that is to have someone contact you. When your phone rings, don’t blow it by sounding like you have 400 pounds of dead-weight on your shoulders.

The sound, tone, pace and volume of your voice all are instrumental in delivering your verbal communication. Realizing this is half the battle. Make your tone count.
