Accepting Responsibility

When I read this quote, I immediately recalled a passage from the movie actor and producer Woody Allen who once said that he had accomplished many fine things in his life but managed to come up short on a number of occasions. What he failed to accomplish was nobody’s fault but his own.

According to him, Woody was given every opportunity to do more with his life, but he can’t blame anybody but himself for his shortcomings.

“There is no tougher challenge than to accept personal responsibility for not only what we are, but also what we can be.”David McNally

And, so it is with most of us. Since we do not have to invest in inventory or raw materials, and we have equal access to the planes, ships, hotels, and destinations that are available to everyone, we have equal access to technology and the market.

To accomplish our wildest dreams, all we need to do is decide if we are willing to pay the price in both time and effort.

If, for some reason, you do not succeed to the level you had in mind, the chances are more than good that it is nobody’s fault but your own.

Let’s net this out:

Fact: You are who you are. You must definitely work within your personal budgetary and time constraints. Your personality is what it is and will dictate just how comfortable you are when selecting various marketing strategies.

Fact: You can be what you want to become. This pertains to goal setting, planning and believing in your skills, strengths and capabilities.

Fact: You must decide to pay the price. I wish it wasn’t true but there comes a time when you have to “pay the fiddler.” This means you must put in the time to study, learn, network, write, propose, practice, fail and succeed.

Fact: The ball is in your court. Nobody is as good at being you than you are. Nobody cares about your success as much as you do. You must realize, sooner than later, that you are driving the bus and where you take it is entirely up to you. The good news is that your bus has a “reverse” for when you find yourself driving down a dead-end street. But, if you keep driving, you will arrive at your destination. (This is called poetic license. So shoot me. LOL)
