I recently moderated an adviser panel at the Travel Agent Forum in Las Vegas. In my closing remarks, I mentioned to the audience that before they started advertising, they needed to be able to answer this simple question: “Why should a prospect buy from me?” I suggested that they look around, because each person in the room was their competition and those who can answer the question will win.
After the session concluded, two of the four panelists made it a point to tell me that they didn’t consider the people in the room to be their competition. Well, I asked, who is? As sales and marketing advice goes, this may very well be up there with the best of it. I was reminded of this natural phenomenon this week, and I could not find my way to my computer keyboard fast enough to share it with whoever is out there listening. This is a BIGGIE. Tune in.
I ended a recent tele-class with what I consider to be some sage advice. To me, what I am about to suggest is both logical and extraordinarily simple. It is effective and incredibly apropos. It does not cost a red cent and the results are extremely powerful.
The truth is however, that nobody can do what I am about to suggest without feeling uncomfortable to some degree. This last sentence, in and of itself, may explain why there are not more successful travel-related sales professionals in the United States today. Read the rest of this entry »

As much as you probably DO NOT want to hear this, one of the most important marketing tools you can have is an article that you give to prospects once you have made initial contact.
An article is the ideal follow up vehicle to give to someone you meet through networking, after a speaking engagement, and on your website to encourage a visitor to opt-in to your mailing list. An article is often the first tool you use in the marketing process. It gives you a reason to follow-up with a prospect to learn more about them or to send them more information that can ultimately lead to a meeting.

It seems that the Judge has had enough and has strongly suggested that the biggest of the Carnival big-wigs be in her courtroom in June. I can remember that Esso put a tiger in our tank and that my Keds tennis shoes would make me run a little faster and jump a little higher. This window on England opens on the Royal Horticultural Society and the stunning flower shows they organise along with the Chelsea Flower Show. I’ve sharpened the focus on Blenheim Palace, York, our home of chocolate and the autumn Ceramics Biennial in Stoke on Trent before taking a closer look at Cornwall. Although it is in the far southwest of England, it’s a first-class illustration of a TRAVEL LESS-SEE MORE destination and my suggestions will begin to reveal what this rugged southwestern tip of England can offer enterprising travel counsellors.
Today’s message is a message based on a true story. It contains an important reminder for all of you.
A particular industry conference was on my calendar for over a month. I knew as a professional speaker that good things result from my wandering trade show aisles. This alone serves as a walking example that “Marchev is alive and well.” I was not attending this show as a conference speaker. I was a paid attendee. This was a few years ago and the conference was conducted by the Cruise Association.

I pride myself as being upbeat, self-motivated, make-it-happen type of guy. In fact, my business card labels me as a “Motivational Speaker” so I must be more than squared away more often than not.
But I am also a seasoned realist…a guy who has been around the bases more than once and who has developed the skill of spotting a creep from down the block. I am a student of the customer service game and not much gets by me.

There is something going on here, and I for one, am not particularly crazy about it. Call it “political correctness” or call it “scared to rock the boat,” but the outcome is the same. People are reluctant to tell those in position what they need to hear.
