Which Way To Go?

I remember telling a friend of mine that I thought things would be different once we reached our age. I thought things would be easier. I thought the hard part would be yesterday’s news. I soon found out that I was wrong… again.

This simply is not the case. But if you stop to think about it, life would be pretty boring if we all had it together before the stage lights were dimmed and the theatre was closed for the night.

Marketing is fun and entertaining because some things work and other things don’t work. The reason for this is because our world is constantly spinning… constantly in flux… constantly testing our patience. Change is the only constant we can count on. And that is as it should be. That is what keeps us excited and hopeful.

We all will face times when we feel inundated and overwhelmed. We won’t know which way to turn and what to do next. We might even become scared. (I hate it when people become scared.) The secret is to know that these times are coming and not to overreact once they do. They soon will be yesterday’s news.

I will experience these days and you will experience these days. And when we do, let’s make it our business to have the courage and the confidence to know that they too will pass, as we continue to service our existing clients while looking for that next person to serve. After all, marketing is a dynamic process. It is not a stop-and-go strategy that we dabble with when we feel like it.

When sales slow down and your marketing pipeline dries up, please remember that we are all in this thing together – and together we will emerge out of this “temporary funk” and soon be doing our marketing “happy dance” once again.

Which way to go? Go forward. With enthusiasm. With confidence. With personality. With hope. With ambition. With the knowledge and conviction that your business is to help people enjoy themselves. It will also help if you remember that you did not get this far by accident.

In all probability, yours is a business worth developing.
