#3: Speed Wins

I am about to share with you a truth in business that you can virtually take to the bank: Speed wins.

I know. I know. I can hear a number of you saying, “But Mike, it is a well-known fact that haste makes waste.” Yes it does. I am not referring that you shoot out of the blocks mindlessly. I am reminding you in no uncertain terms “he/she who hesitates is lost.”

Speed wins in horse races. Speed wins in car races. Speed wins in most every competitive contest. And speed definitely wins in business. I am not talking about casting your fate to the wind and jumping at opportunities without planning, thinking, or doing your homework. I’m talking about placing more emphasis on action than you normally do.

Be it emails, phone calls, verbal promises, or any other type of communication, the first one to act has a huge advantage over the procrastinating majority.

Remember that people like to feel important. And there is no better way to say “you are important to me,” than to respond to them in a timely fashion.

Message: Speed things up, without becoming reckless, and you will find yourself smiling more often on your way to the bank.

An afterthought: If you need more to think about before endorsing this suggestion, I refer you to Mel Robbins who write the Five Second Rule. If reading isn’t your thing, search for “Mel Robbins” on YouTube and look for her clips on The Five Second Rule. She also can be found on Ted Talks.
