Niche Marketing: Buzz Word or Logical Solution?

A business lesson that is hard to come to terms with is the fact (the truth) that you can’t be all things to all people. You can try. You can even succeed at times but, in the long run, you will be shooting yourself in the foot.

To become exceptional at what you do and thereby distance yourself from the competition, you must become very good, very knowledgeable, and very focused on your chosen subject matter.

Generalists compete on price. Specialists compete on total job satisfaction.

It is important to understand that you will not be limited to your niche. You will still be in position to pick and choose those projects that are appealing to both your interest and your pocketbook.

Your selected area of expertise, however, will require a concentrated attention on a daily basis. You must devote time to enhancing your knowledge base regularly and without exception or excuse. You must pay the price if you truly want to become the best at what you do.

In order to shed some light on the various areas you might want to consider, I will provide a sample list for you to serve as an idea generator.

Marketing to My Niche

My favorite go-to tactic is the “Two-Step.” This is where you ask your market if they are interested in receiving information on a certain topic.

This segments your audience to those who have an immediate interest from those who don’t… at the moment. You supply them with the interested information, and you follow up accordingly. This is a logical and painless way to initiate a relationship.
