There Is No Harm In Asking

Today’s marketing minute falls under the category of current events. This happened to me twice in the last few days. Here is my story and accompanying lesson/reminder.

Adjacent to where I live in Florida are two gated communities where I have always wanted to see beyond the gates. For years, I drove past these two communities trying to imagine what their layout looked like.

This week I banged a left turn and found myself speaking with the guard. I rolled down my window and said to the uniformed guard, “My name is Mike Marchev and I am interested in your property. Can you recommend me to a real estate agent I can schedule an appointment with?” The guard politely said, “No, I don’t.”

Before swinging a U-turn to exit the area I decided to “toss the dice” knowing it would be an act of futility. “Do you think I can take a quick look around as long as I am here?” To my amazement, she nodded her approval and opened the gate without even asking to see my license.

Here’s a little trick that will ensure smooth sailing. Before

You can probably guess that the exact same thing happened the very next day at property number two. I got through two guarded, gated communities by simply asking.

I am not saying the guard’s decision was correct. It wasn’t. I am saying I accomplished my task against all odds by simply asking.

I am not going to insult you by explaining any further. Bottom Line: ASK for what you want and be ready to accept the response.
