Create Your Circumstance

It should come as no surprise that daily routines have been altered a bit due to the limitations on our movements through, and around, town. One positive outcome of my “hunkering” at home involved a project I have been putting of for years. My wife reminded me it was finally time to clean out a living room closet.

Computer wires, old record albums, outdated picture frames, cassette tapes and more made up the bulk of the mess. But, it was the books left behind that caught my attention.

Over the past 45 years, I have accumulated hundreds of books on sales, marketing and customer service. But this one in particular, given the current state of our virus pandemic gave me much to think about.

It was titled MOMENTUM BUILDERS by John Mason. For the next few days, I will be sharing some of the more pertinent lessons from this book.

I will begin today by sharing a quote numbered #6 in his book:

BE A CREATOR OF CIRCUMSTANCES NOT A VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCES

I would be preaching to the choir if I told you we are all in a mess. We have never experienced what we all are going through these days. You know it, and I know it. Enough said.

That being understood, we still have choices. We can allow these current events to sculpt our future or we can adopt a more proactive disposition and test our limits.

It may not be time to launch a full scale sales campaign, but it is prime time to reach out and see how you can help your prospects and clients. If they choose to accept your help, it is entirely up to them. You can’t control their response, but you can position yourself as the caring person you are.

Don’t simply watch things happen. Make things happen.
