Are We Having Fun Yet?

It is my personal opinion that, “it doesn’t suck being me.” I feel this way because I have come to learn and appreciate that my numerous failures were just temporary setbacks. In fact, and in truth, they all played pivotal roles in my development over the years. (And I have more than my share of goof-ups.)

“Failure is in a sense, the highway to success, inasmuch as every discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestly after what is true.” – John Keats

Maybe it is my age starting to talk, but it seems that my mind is going through some unchartered waters as of late. I find myself at the kitchen table at 5 a.m. each morning reviewing my past failures, while contemplating my next move.

Believe me, my past consists of more than just a few failed attempts. Some more flagrant than others. But here I am, contemplating my next move. I live my life believing that I am just one sales call (or sales letter) away from hitting a Grand Slam. That is a fun way to live, as long as you keep swinging.

If there is somebody out there listening who thinks they have notched more failures than I have, I would like to meet you. I believe I can go toe-to-toe with the best of them. If nothing else, I bet we can keep each other amused for a few days.

I once gave some sincere advice to a room full of high school seniors suggesting that if they wanted to succeed faster in life, they should seriously contemplate accelerating their failure curve. Can’t you just picture the look on their parent’s faces that evening when they reported at the dinner table that some big-shot guest speaker told them it was okay to fail?

“Live all you can; it’s a mistake not to. It doesn’t so much matter what you do in particular, so long as you have your life. If you haven’t had that, what have you had?” – Henry James

Today’s Message(s): It is okay to live your life the way you choose to live it.

It is okay to fail as you try new and different things, as long as you learn something from your efforts. You never have to apologize for being you. After all, it should be fun being you.

It doesn’t suck being me… and I am quite certain that it doesn’t suck being you. If you focus on getting out and making a few more people glad they know you, you will not be making a mistake.
