It Isn’t Over Until It’s Over

I believe we give credit to the Yankees catcher Yogi Berra who said, “It ain’t over until it is over.” An off-shoot of this sometimes refers to an over-weight soprano singing the lyrics to God Bless America.

According to the latest news reports, summer is now over since Labor Day has come and gone. And although many people are beginning to act like Covid-19 is over, even without an advanced medical degree I can assure you that it isn’t.  But there is something more important than both of these examples that is not over yet. YOU.

You are not over yet. You are not done yet building, pursuing, enjoying, creating, caring, loving, crying, laughing and living. (And voting.)

The sad truth is that many people today are walking around like it is over. It appears they have “given up the ghost” and are just meandering through the rest of their years.

SNAP OUT OF IT. (As Cher succinctly pointed out to Nicholas Cage in Moonstruck.)

At the expense of sounding like a broken record, I will gently remind you that there is a lot more work to be done. By both you and me. Let the naysayers do their thing. Let the macho group swim against the tide. Let the “suits” drag their feet. Not you. Not me.

There are people out there who need us (Not everybody.) You are not “over” yet and the fat lady has not even started to sing.  (Kate Smith)

Nobody can deny the year 2020 has not been a real doozy. I’m not downplaying this tragic nine months. Not for a moment. But our role in this tragedy is an ongoing event. It isn’t time to quit. It isn’t time to stop moving forward. It isn’t over until it is over.
