Persist Until You Succeed

… it is not given to me to know how many steps are necessary in order to reach my goal. Failure I may still encounter at the thousandth step, yet success hides behind the next bend in the road. Never will I know how close it lies unless I turn the corner.” – Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World

I miss being alone on center stage. I miss the sharpness of the spotlight and the vastness of the venue. Most of all, I miss the people in their seats curious with anticipation. They think, ‘who is this guy, does he have a clue about the challenges in my world and will I feel any different when he’s done?

I typically have between 15 and 90-minutes to connect, engage, and resonate. Public speaking is a sport that I train for consistently, and have a love for fervently.

Great speakers thrive off the energy of their audience. Be it a dozen or a thousand people focused on our message, this is the pressure cooker we prize. With the virtual evaporation of LIVE keynotes and workshops, I have done my share of soul-searches and purpose-pivots. I refuse to lose!

Nobody knows when in-person events will emerge. I can’t quite see the goal post, but I know it’s just around the corner. So, my mission is to stay in tip-top shape. I am delivering a virtual speech minutes from now. A positive attitude keeps me disciplined. I will persist until I succeed.

Since February, I have been training to compete in the St. Jude Memphis Ironman 70.3. The competition was scheduled for October 2020. It came as no surprise that it was pushed to October 2021. I can’t quite see the goal post, but I know it’s around the corner. So, my mission is to stay in tip-top shape. A positive attitude keeps me disciplined. I will persist until I succeed.

I’ve had an idea to reimagine ADHD as a skill set. I was always too busy writing speeches and traveling to get is started. Being grounded has put more time in my day. I have created an LLC., filed for a trademark, identified a partner to do research and writing, prepared for a podcast, and will be going back to school to become a certified ADHD Life Coach.

I can’t quite see the goal post, but I know it’s around the corner. So, my mission is to acquire all new skill sets. A positive attitude keeps me disciplined. I will persist until I succeed.

What books have you been reading to lift your spirits so you’ll be ready to rock when the call comes? I am re-reading the best-seller by Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World. He writes, “I will persist until I succeed.” These words speak to me. I encourage you to keep your attitude positive, and your discipline steadfast. Persist until you succeed for it lies just around the corner!
