Updated May 17th 10:41 PM. United to resume service of 777 fleet pending final approval
United Airlines suspended seven of its long-haul flights in June citing a diminished number of aircraft resulting from the grounding of their Boeing 777’s after an engine disintegration showered a Denver community with debris.
Ironically, the announced route suspension comes only days after United announced an expansion into six new destinations: Amman, Jordan; Bergen, Norway; Azores, Portugal; Palma de Mallorca, Spain; and Tenerife in the Spanish Canary Islands. In addition, United plans on resuming its service route between San Francisco and Melbourne in June, and will be the only airline doing so..
The suspended June routes are:
- Washington Dulles International Airport and Guarulhos International
Airport in São Paulo, Brazil - Washington Dulles and Switzerland’s Geneva Airport
- Washington Dulles and Honolulu
- Washington Dulles and Dublin Airport in Ireland
- Newark International Airport and Maui’s Kahului Airport
- Newark and Honolulu International Airport
- Newark and Tokyo’s Narita International Airport
United plans on the routes being reinstated in July, but offered little information beyond the statement: “United makes regular adjustments to our schedule in response to factors including resources such as available aircraft. We look forward to bringing back this flying soon.”
Passengers on the affected routes will be re-accommodated on other routes or refunded.
