It’s that time. Time to review. Time to make my 2017 business plan. Time for me to say farewell to you as my year of Travel Agent Diaries has come to a close.
I was a bit nervous last year when TRO contacted me to write. I was in the midst of a divorce which ended up catapulting to a major move. I decided to write to have my own accountability of where the year would go. With monthly deadlines and happy reminders from John each month, I was ‘forced’ to review what had taken place in my business. The good, the bad, and the ugly. In the end, the one thing I mentioned in the beginning still holds true. Read the rest of this entry »
Here we are, nearly the end of October. The leaves are falling from the trees, temperatures are descending, and the year is rapidly coming to a close. I have had to turn my heat on as I write this morning. My blood is still thin from my 13 years in Tennessee, but I have to say I am adapting and loving my new location here in New Jersey. I have finally landed myself in New Jersey, but not before a few more hiccups in the road. I was delayed leaving Wisconsin due to issues with the closing on my home. After an additional 5 days with my sister, I decided to pack up and head east to Vermont where my parents reside. I made a few pit stops along the way to catch up with other travel colleagues. The beauty of our business is all the friends we make across the country and the world. I probably could have spent the whole summer just traveling and catching up with everyone. I truly feel blessed to be a part of this industry. Read the rest of this entry »
Well, here we are halfway through 2016 and I only expect the second half of the year to fly by even faster. I made it to Wisconsin, but not before a brief delay to tidy up some loose ends with the business before departing. It has been a learning process for sure and one thing you will discover is that each and every situation in life is unique. While I had researched and found there were several options for moving my business from Tennessee to New Jersey, I discovered during my purchasing process that due to certain circumstances from the divorce and how they operate in New Jersey that I would need to dissolve my business in Tennessee. I can’t believe it’s already time for me to make another entry. Things have been wild and crazy here. I put an offer in on a condo, put an offer in on another condo, and then eventually ended up with an accepted offer and closing date on my original offer that I made when I went in April on my house hunt—you following? The sale is moving along nicely now, and I will officially be in my new location sometime in the middle of July. In the time between closing here (which is only one week away) and establishing myself there, I will head off to my sister’s (one of my first ICs) and operate the business from her location while working out all the details of moving my LLC from Tennessee to New Jersey. Dear Travel Diary….
I feel I should be starting these monthly writings with that, (as I chuckle to myself). As I mentioned last month, I decided to invest in GIFTE’s Diamond Mastermind Program. I know it may seem odd with ink fresh on the divorce papers and a pending move across the country to spend this kind of money now. But that was exactly the point of why I chose to do it. What better time for me to invest in my business than when a major change is on the horizon? Therefore, investment made, April kicked off with our first Diamond Mastermind Meeting in Charlotte. Many of you may have asked yourselves in January, “Why is she writing about stepping out of her office and taking a walk during the height of booking season?” Well, the answer is I run and work my travel business from home, and home has not been such a great place recently. January 20th marked the end of my marriage of nearly 25 years. In a matter of 10 minutes in a courtroom, my life as I had known it had changed. Read the rest of this entry »
One great thing about having a daughter in college is that after the holiday break ends and things begin to return to normal, she still has a couple of weeks off to hang and chill before her next semester begins. So, January found us with the house to ourselves to enjoy one of our many “Girls’ Nights”. Read the rest of this entry »
Where should I begin? A life as a travel consultant was certainly not something I ever dreamed of as a little girl. A flight attendant, yes! However, in my day they had very strict physical requirements and being only a whopping 5-foot tall… well, a life in the “Friendly Skies” was out for me. Now owning or running a company, that was a dream.
I was always inspired by my father. You see, by the time I landed here outside of Memphis, TN, I had already moved 19 times, and Tennessee made my 9th state. Read the rest of this entry »
