Christopher Columbus

On this day in 1492, the expedition of explorer Christopher Columbus's made landfall in the Caribbean, specifically in The Bahamas.

The explorer believed he had reached South Asia. Columbus made a total of four voyages of exploration to the New World, funded by Isabella I of Castile.

His explorations began the process of European colonization of the Americas.
