South America is the southern sub-continent of the Americas, generally accepted as being between the Panama-Colombia border and the southern tip of Chile. There are 12 countries in South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela. In addition, there is French Guiana (an Overseas Region of France) and the Falkland, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands (all territories of Great Britain). |
