Machu Picchu’s beautiful backdrop, along with its history, brings in tourists from around the world to immerse themselves in its beauty and wonder.

  • Located in the high Andes of Peru, Machu Picchu is the site of an ancient Inca city and easily one of the most iconic ruins in the world. The site was thought to be, at the time, a country resort for the Incan elite and was built in 1430AD before it was abandoned.
  • A few ways to get to the site include by the Inca Trail, by bus or foot from Aguas Calientes, or by the Inca Jungle Trek.
  • Tickets for visiting the site vary depending on which one of the hills you intend to climb, and visitors are restricted to 400 per day. Students can also get 50% off their ticket price.
  • If you’re wanting to capture the perfect backdrop and the best view of the ruins, visit the Wayna Picchu towers just above the south end of Machu Picchu. Although daunting because of it’s steep ascent, Wayna Picchu is a fairly easy hike and offers visitors a stunning landscape.
  • Located near the entrance of the site is a concession stand made available to visitors. While you cannot bring any food or drink into the site, you are allowed to leave and return.
  • There are also two restaurants located within the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, including the Tinkuy Buffet Restaurant and the Tampu Restaurant Bar.
  • The Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge also serves as a place to sleep for visitors who choose to stay near the Citadel.
  • Machu Picchu is a stunning destination for anyone interested in the Incan culture or a fascination with ancient civilizations.
