Reservations are now open for AmaWaterways’ 2024 Seven River Journey – Spring and Summer Editions. AmaWaterways is introducing its longest journey yet with the complete 49-night itinerary spent on board one ship, the AmaMora, and the first-time experience of sailing the complete length of the Rhine and Danube rivers including the seldom visited Danube Delta region leading to the Black Sea.
Guests who reserve their spot on AmaWaterways’ Seven River Journeys for 2024 will have the opportunity to dive deep into each region’s unique history, cultural traditions, and savory cuisine and wine, while being treated to a variety of experiences along the way. For the first time, the 2024 journeys will include a 7-day exploration of the Danube Delta visiting six new towns along the way and showcasing a special folklore event in a new port, Giurgiulesti, Moldova.

Seven River Journey: Summer 2024 Edition
The Seven River Journey: Summer 2024 Edition is the reverse journey of AmaMora beginning on June 10, 2024, in Giurgiu, Romania and ending on July 29, 2024, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Guests will enjoy summertime sailing the complete length of the Danube before passing through the history-making Main-Danube Canal onto the Rhine, Main, Moselle rivers and finally enjoying the Scheldt, Maas and Waal waterways of Netherlands and Belgium.

The 2024 Spring and Summer Editions of AmaWaterways’ Seven River Journeys invite guests to traverse seven legendary rivers and 15 countries in a matter of 49 nights while remaining on AmaMora for the complete duration of their seven-week journeys.
In the Danube Delta, guests can explore ancient Roman architecture at the Fortress of Silistra; they can visit a UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve, home to over 200 species of birds; the city of Bucharest, known as the “Little Paris of the East”, is also interesting to explore with narrow cobblestone streets and its Old Town.
The sailing will then take guests through the Lower Danube and the Iron Gates. Visit Giurgiu, Romania, filled with interesting architecture and history. In Belgrade, guests can visit the Royal Palace or hike to Belgrade Fortress.
Perhaps my favorite stretch of the journey is from Budapest to Nuremburg. Get familiar with Bratislava’s beer and food scene in AmaWaterways’ “Tastes of Slovakia” city tour. Vienna is a fun city to wander, there is good shopping and many fun sights to see. Ama also offers a city tour which will take guests to Vienna’s famous Opera House and Imperial Palace, and Vienna’s UNESCO named historic city center. My favorite stop along this stretch of the river is Durnstein, where guests have the option to visit Melk Abbey or take a bike ride through the Wachau Valley.
AmaMora will then sail from Basel to Luxembourg, stopping in Strasbourg, Rudesheim, Cochem, and more. Strasbourg is another favorite stop along this journey. Home to Ribeauville, one of the oldest medieval towns in the Alsace region, Strasbourg is a beautiful city with, again, great shopping and architecture. The bike tour offered in Strasbourg is one of my favorites I have done. It is flat and the town is bike friendly. In fact, when I did the tour, I branched off with a group of friends and we took our bikes around town. Easy to navigate and so much fun.
Toward the end of the journey, guests will sail from Luxembourg to Amsterdam. In Rudesheim guests can visit Siegfried’s whimsical Mechanical Musical Cabinet Museum, a museum collection of self-playing instruments. Cologne is another highlight of this part of the journey – and not just because of the Kolsch beer! It’s true, the culture around Kolsch in Cologne is very fun. If you are a beer drinker, make your way to a Brauhaus and enjoy. Cologne also houses a very impressive cathedral and many museums.
On the last leg of the sailing, guests will visit the Netherlands. Amsterdam is a great bookend to this journey. Guests will have the chance to sail through the city on a canal cruise, visit the largest castle in Holland, tour The Hague, and more.
What we like about this itinerary: While we love that river cruising gives travelers the chance to see a lot of ground in a short period of time, this sailing gives travelers a chance to slow down and spend a bit more time in a destination. There are plenty of overnight stays in ports, allowing guests to chance to venture off on their own, as well as repeat ports. This eliminates some FOMO, or fear of missing out, that some get when having to choose between excursions and itineraries.
